This year is the first year that we wont be travelling north to spend Solstice and Christmas with family. Instead we are planning a simple and quiet holiday here at home. These seasonal celebrations are my most favourite of all and I am little excited to see what rhythm and traditions are created and unfold. One of the things I remember most about Christmas as a little girl are the homemade decorations that smothered filled our tree...egg carton spiders, clothes peg reindeers and paper garlands. Twenty eight years later and my Mum still pulls out the most cherished ones. So we thought get into the seasonal spirit by making some decorations that will last for years to come. With the Christmas garland already covered we settled on some simple hanging ornaments.
I adore Kylie Johnson's beautiful ceramics over at Boat Paper Press and was inspired by her work to create something simple that would reflect the things that mean the most to us.
Our seasonal branch with Zahra's Spring birds from last year now holds our home's first Solstice decorations. They make me smile every time I catch a glimpse.
And I couldn't resist playing around with some ideas for Summer.
I'm planning a make post later this week so you can all create your own.
In the meantime I'd love to hear what solstice and Christmas traditions your family shares.
